Bills Lost, Good bye Playoffs

Well as I am sure you and all of the fellow Buffalonians already know the Bills lost earlier today eight to nothing by the Cleveland Browns. This dashed all hopes for the Bills to make a spot for themselves in the playoffs.

There was a lot of hype put into this game. Like I said, a victory would put the winning team in great in a great position to make it to the playoffs. The weather also played a factor in the game as well. The news providers were referring to the game as “The Snow Bowl” and “The Battle of Lake Erie.”

Both teams were huge long-shots at the beginning of the season to even have winning records by the end of the season.

The Browns always seemed to be perennial losers, but that changed this season after week one. They, like the Bills, had the odds stacked up against them as well. After benching their starting Quarterback after week one, and the releasing him to another team, having their coach on the verge of losing his job, and being totally disregarded as a good football team before the season started, they sure overcame some diversity. They became one of the league’s best offenses, and even though their defense usually does terrible they came up big against the Bills. Hence, that big goose egg of a zero the Away team, Buffalo, had under their name on the scoreboard.

To be quite honest, I did not think that the Bills would win more than five games this season, but they did in dramatic fashion.

After Kevin Everett’s injury topped off with a heart wrenching lose to the Broncos, a Cowboys lose with just seconds left on Monday Night Football, to our leading tackler in Paul P. (I am not going to bother trying to spell his last name) going down with a season ending arm injury, along with 7 others put on injured reserve, plus 12 other players that were hurt. The odds were really stacked up against us to even make a push to the playoffs this late in the season. According to my standards I am satisfied with the outcome on the Bills’ season, which still has two games left to be decided. We could possibly end up with a record of nine wins and seven loses. Not to shabby, even though we will not be heading to the post season.

Next to the Arizona Cardinals, the Buffalo Bills hold the longest current streak of not making the playoffs. That’s not a statistic a Franchise would want to be part of.

Like the saying goes, There is always next year.” And if you are a fan of Buffalo sports, you have pretty much said that your entire life.

I hope the Bills can make a few off season moves to make the team better. I have high hopes for them next year.

Now we can all root for the Sabres to make a run to the playoffs and hopefully surprise a few teams in the post season. Who knows, maybe they will even end up with a Stanley Cup. Hey, you never know.

Parking Cars at the Bills’ game

I’m a senior in High School so naturally i am low on cash.  A friend of mine offered me a job to help park cars in a gravel lot near Ralph Wilson Stadium during the home Bills’ games.  He said it would pay ten bucks an hour and that i would work about four to five hours on a given Sunday when the Bills were playing at home.  He also said I would even get to be home in time to catch the last three quarters of the game.  How could i refuse?  Ten bucks an hour to wave a little red flag in the air and tell people where to park their cars.  And i get to be home in time to catch most of the game.  Sounds easy to me!

It pretty much is the easiest job in the World.  I basically pick a nice place to plant my feet, wave my little red flag in the air, and send the cars in the direction my boss wants them to park.  Could it be any easier?  I mean they could have a monkey stand there and do the exact same job i do and it would only cost them a banana for the monkey to eat.  Instead they have me stand there with a red polo on and point cars in the direction where they should park with my trusty red flag in my hand.

Today i pretty much goofed off before the large crowd of cars piled in.  When someone asked me where to park i would reply and say, “Just park between the lines or park between those two rocks over there.”  Pretty sarcastic of me because the entire parking lot is made up of gravel and rocks and there isn’t a single chaulk line for parking.  Nobody really took my remarks too seriously.  Actually, the people i told those statements to got a good laugh when they realized how dumb the statements really were.

Most of the people there get really into the tailgating.  While I’m standing around waiting for a car to come they’re having a blast getting all hyped for the Bills’ game.  Let me tell you its torture when you haven’t had any lunch and the people next to you a whipping up some BBQ chicken.

If there’s one thing i love about Buffalo its the people that live here.  There are over 80,000 people at the stadium to cheer on a team that hasn’t gone to the playoffs since before the turn of the new millennium.  They are so united and absolutly love there Buffalo sports’ teams, and i will admit i love the Sabres and Bills too.  Year after year they break our hearts but we always come back to root for them a again the next season.   They people there are also really nice, except when it comes to fans of the other team.  Sometimes they’ll offer me a beer or get all up in my face and scream, “GO BILLS!”  A group of fans took an old Willis McGahee jersey and burnt it.   All around the people there were having a great time.  Not to mention the Bills won the game which sent them all home happy.

Maybe for one of the upcoming Bills home games i will buy tickets and take a day off from parking cars to enjoy the tailgating experience for myself.

Where’s the rock?

rrr.jpgIs it just me, or has rock music fallen off the planet the past few years.  I mean you turn on the tube these days, put on MTV or VH1, and all you hear is rap and pop music.  I have no problem with either genre of music.  I have some rap songs on my ipod, but i can get really sick of the stuff really fast.

I put MTV2 on today and they had that Sucker Free Countdown on, which is a countdown of the 20 best rap songs of the week.  i thought to myself how can someone watch a countdown of all rap for two straight hours?  i listened to one song and the guy was rapping so fast i couldn’t understand one word he was saying.  i felt like pulling my hair out.  i wanted to hear some good tunes while i was exercising.  so after i got sick of the rap music i was listening to, it took my about 10 seconds to finally change the channel.

i put on Vh1 and they had the top 20 video countdown on.  i figured this is good, the top 20 countdown should have a good variety of music to listen too while i exercise.  maybe I’ll actually hear some good rock music.  it turned out that there was only about 10 minutes left of the 2 hour program.  before they showed the number one video of the week they showed a recap of the videos that placed 20-2.  i was disappointed to find out that the heaviest song on the countdown was a Maroon 5 song.  how crummy is that?  how am i supposed to pump and iron and hit the treadmill while listening to Maroon 5?

there was a song by velvet revolver on there.  the only reason why i mention this is because they are a combo of Guns n Roses and Stone Temple Pilots, who are two amazing bands.  The song they had on there sounded like something my mom would want to listen to on the soft rock channel on the radio.  the song sounded like some crappy jingle you would hear in the elevator.

After the dissapointment of the VH1 countdown i figured i would try my luck with the radio.  the #1 video of the week was a nelly furtodo song by the way.  Nothing gets me pumped up like a a good Nelly Furtodo song huh?

So i turn on the only rock station i know of, 103.3 the edge.  How could they let me down?  well after about 15 minutes of commercails on how to save money on car insurance and coffee at dunkin doughnuts, metallica’s enter sandman came on.  Finally i can feel pumped up while i work out.  After hearing songs by Metallica, Guns n Roses, Motley Crue, and many toher bands from the ate 80’s early 90’s my workout was complete.  it was then that i realized i didnt hear a single rock song that came out in the past 10 years.

What will it take for new rock music to take over mainstream music on the airwaves and the telivision?
